Devil’s Lake - October 2024

Chicago Climbs took its first big leap beyond the walls of the gym and into the great outdoors as the group headed to Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin, for a day of climbing, community, and adventure. This trip marked a milestone for our non-profit, as we continue to make climbing accessible and welcoming to everyone in the Chicago area.

Our group was a diverse mix of climbers—some were tying in for the very first time, while others were pushing their limits on 5.12 routes. It was inspiring to watch everyone support each other, regardless of their experience level. The excitement and camaraderie were contagious, with each climb strengthening not only muscles but connections between all of us.

This unforgettable day wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support from our partners. A massive thank you goes out to Devil's Lake Climbing Guides, who ensured that everyone was safe and prepared for the challenges ahead. We'd also like to thank the American Alpine Club’s Chicago chapter for their partnership, helping make this event a reality.

Of course, none of this could have happened without the generous backing from Thrive Outside, the Outdoor Foundation, and The Nature Convervancy Illinois. Their commitment to expanding outdoor access made it possible for us to bring this experience to our community. Thanks to their support, many of our climbers were able to experience outdoor climbing for the first time, and they left eager for more.

As we look ahead, we’re more motivated than ever to keep building a community where climbing is for everyone—whether you’re a seasoned pro or just getting started. Yesterday was just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventure will take us.
